The GlenAllachie 11 Years Old Px Wood Finish

It's understandable why this distillery is collecting so many accolades recently, thanks to the master distiller's work. This limited release was created solely for the Professional Danish Whisky Retailers, bottled at 48% ABV, and completed in a Pedro Ximenez Cask. On the nose, it presents considerable complexity, though initially subdued. It requires patience to fully emerge. Notes of mint, dates, florals, white chocolate, banana bread, dulce de leche, peaches, and leather are detected. Following an initial taste, the scent offered cherries coated in dulce de leche, a refined spiciness; vanilla and eggnog. On the palate, it's superb. Flavors of red fruits, red wine, and pleasant spices appear. Further sips uncovered white Kit Kat and salt. The finish is highly satisfying. Red fruits, prunes, tobacco, and hay are present. There's a welcome oak spice, gooseberries, and blackberries. In summary, this is an exceptional dram. Graceful, potent, intricate, and pleasing. The interplay of bitterness, sweetness, and oak spices creates a truly unforgettable single malt. I rate it 93 out of 100.

A- Amber color with a +2 hue, medium thickness. N- Vanilla, honey, damp wood, banana, mixed berries, seltzer, plums, and chocolate notes. P- A moderately oaky and spicy initial taste, with seltzer, a full, rich, and oily profile. It's sweet, featuring honey, vanilla, milk chocolate, banana, plums, and dark berries, alongside damp wood and licorice. F- The finish is short to medium in length, leaving a sweet, fruity, oaky, and seltzer aftertaste. C- The impact of the bourbon barrel is quite pronounced here. While I do enjoy sherry finishes, the Pedro Ximenez notes emerge at the conclusion but are overshadowed by the bourbon cask's influence. I'll let this sit for another month to observe how oxidation aids its development.

Reminds me of Balkan rakia. Very sweet.
