Tamdhu Batch Strength Batch 005

This distillery's Batch Strength series has captured my attention. I thoroughly enjoyed the third release, and the fourth was exceptional. Let's see if they've achieved a hat-trick with this one. Nose: Gala apple, pear, ripe banana, white grape, and apricot. Raisin, fig, date, plum, cranberry, blackberry, and cola. Honeydew/cantaloupe notes are present. Peach. A good mix of light and dark fruits. Shortbread cookie and vanilla custard. Caramel and toffee. Almond. Cinnamon. Hot tamales candy. Clove, nutmeg, white pepper, and oak spice. Palate: Vanilla custard. Plum, date, fig, raisin, blackberry, and cola. Clementine and orange citrus. Caramel, honey, butterscotch, toffee, and malt. Gala apple, pear, apricot, and white grape were prominent on the nose, but are slightly less so on the palate. Mango. Irish soda bread. More hot tamale candy. Cinnamon, white pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Finish: Cocoa. Date, fig, plum, cranberry, and raisin. Blackberry. Gala apple. Pineapple, clementine, and orange citrus. Caramel, toffee, vanilla, and Irish soda bread. Black pepper, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and oak. As long a finish as you can get. Another strong entry in the Tamdhu Batch Strength line. Interesting profile. Well-balanced despite its incredible, uncut quality and reasonable cost. 4.25/5. This matches Batch 003, with 004 remaining the best. That doesn't detract from this one. 004 was a personal favorite. This is excellent in its own right. At $80, the value for money is excellent. Hopefully, the next batch is still available. It's worth searching local stores for, based on my experiences with the previous three. Well done, Tamdhu.

Caramel and burnt toffee notes. Oily sherry characteristics, finishing with significant spice. A lovely sweetness emerges after allowing it to rest in the mouth (or with a drop of water). It's very much a dessert spirit, best enjoyed in small quantities, but each sip would be delightful. The nose has coffee and demerara sugar.

The sherry influence is noticeable, with lots of fruit and sherry on the nose. The alcohol wasn't an issue for me once it sat for a few minutes. I saw another reviewer suggest this makes a great dessert whiskey, and I completely agree; it's good for that purpose, though not one I'd choose for casual relaxation.

The nose presents nutty sherry and some ethanol. The palate is rich with sherry, oily, and candied sweetness. There's an alcohol burn, but the finish is pleasantly sweet and enduring. Quite sweet. The higher proof is very well integrated.

Aromatic notes of fruit. A strong alcoholic presence with evident sherry notes in the middle. A smooth finish with a hint of citrus.
