Tamdhu 2007 single cask

During our quarterly virtual tasting with esteemed friends, one participant graciously shared a selection of spirits from around the globe. We began with this 14-year-old Tamdhu single cask, bottled at 58.8% ABV. Upon first nosing, it was slightly overwhelming with a strong ethanol burst that gradually subsided, revealing layers of tropical fruits and rich caramels, underscored by mildly tart red berries and a subtle spice. This spice carried through to the palate, which had a rich, velvety texture, a mild tartness, and a spice presence before the long, velvety finish dominated by tropical fruits, eventually fading into light earthy spices. I'm uncertain of this spirit's cost, and believe it was received as a complimentary gift, but if it's priced under $150, I would highly recommend it as a delightful way to commence our tasting.

There's nothing better than receiving a free bottle of whisky that was delivered by mistake. This bottle was sent in error from a UK retailer. I can't complain... especially when I contacted them, and they told me to 'keep it.' If you enjoy Tamdhu or any Sherry-matured whisky, this should be right up your alley. The color is dark, almost mahogany. Aromas of apples and chocolate. The taste is sweet, with notes of hazelnuts, pears, and chocolate. It's really well-balanced and seems older than its 14 years. It could easily pass for an 18+ year old.
