Talisker 2005 Distillers Edition (Bottled 2015)

As soon as you saw 'Talisker' in the review title, you knew the score. This was absolutely amazing. It's like 'Talisker 10 meets Glendronach 18.' I hadn't even heard of Amoroso wood cask before; it seems to be a type of fortified wine or sherry. 'Amoroso' in Spanish, my native tongue, means 'a loving person.' I am very 'amoroso' towards this dram. Bottled at Talisker's classic 45.8% ABV, with a tawny color. On the nose, it's heaven. Wonderful peat, sherry, figs, blackberry marmalade, mostly earthy; not as peaty as other Taliskers, salty, and plums. On the palate, it's... well, perfect. Glazed pork mixed with a pepper bomb; butterscotch, citric notes, gunpowder, bonfire. Such a strange but wonderful combination. The aftertaste is eternal. Super smoky, salty, citric, and burnt meat. There are no easy parts here; it's like a fight against an UFC fighter, with no rest, exploding on your palate from the first second. My score? 99 out of 100. Amazing. Cheers. Go buy it now.

The nose offers pleasant smoky peat and candied walnuts, but after a few sips, the palate presents as smoky pork with a fruity glaze. The smoke persists in a long finish. It's a complex dram that can be savored for its evolving flavors or simply enjoyed as is.

Remarkably smooth and surprisingly sweet-smelling for a Talisker. It possesses significantly less peat than one would anticipate from this brand. The double maturation in sherry casks is evident.

2007 bottling. The nose is potent with notes of hay and seaweed. The taste is smoky and sweet. The finish is weak.
