A devoted admirer of Talisker here. While recording a whisky course, the host requested I review one of his spirits. Immediate excitement ensued. He brought out his 1999 D.E. of Talisker, and I knew a pleasant experience awaited. This is a notably distinct Talisker, particularly in its aroma. It's finished in Amoroso casks. As usual, 45.8% ABV, tawny color. On the nose, bacon, bonfire, vanilla, salt, cherries, coastal, maritime notes are present. It's very sweet yet also salty and peaty. Great. The palate is exquisite: cake, toffee, pepper, MINT LIQUOR (delightful), peat. Amazing. Finish is very long, herbal and salty, intensely peaty. Earthy peat. Heather peat. In conclusion, this is a spectacular dram, falling just short of a perfect score but very close: 96/100. Cheers!
