Starlight Blackberry Flavored Whiskey

Is it whiskey? Or a potent wine? Should it be enjoyed in a brandy snifter, cordial glass, or coffee mug? Its appeal is both unusual and widespread. I'm not entirely sure if it's good, or even a sound concept, but it's entertaining and distinct. The aroma has notes of blackberry jam and black licorice, along with a touch of funkiness from what seems like fruit that's past its prime, bordering on rot! The texture is rich, jam-like, smooth, and alcoholic. It brings to mind my grandmother's remedy for colds: hot blackberry brandy, a bit of black tea, a cinnamon stick, and a lemon slice. This will definitely be my cold remedy! I'm enjoying it warm with a cinnamon stick beside a lovely fire on an autumn evening in my enclosed patio, watching a playoff baseball game. It won't be a centerpiece in my whiskey collection, but more of a guilty pleasure. Sometimes, the unexpected finds, the bottles nobody really prioritizes, can bring surprising delight on a cool autumn night.

To be clear, I only used this in mixed drinks with lemonade, similar to how I've had Crown Blackberry and Jack Daniel's Blackberry. I would not consume this neat. However, if I had to rank the three when mixed with lemonade, my order would be: Jack Blackberry, Starlight Blackberry, then Crown Blackberry. I had hoped this would be better than the Jack Blackberry, especially given its higher proof, but it wasn't. Your personal experience might differ. It's still worth sampling.

I'm VERY surprised by this whiskey! It's not your typical Blackberry Brandy. Real whiskey aged in a blackberry wine barrel for a year, then infused with homegrown blackberries and aged a few more weeks. It has a great color and a berry aroma. A solid whiskey with blackberry on the palate and just a hint of sweetness. Completely genuine. Absolutely delicious. Rated 94 points. Great Value!

The smell is slightly medicinal. Obviously blackberry, but also fresh bread and raisins. Sweet and tart. A very thick mouthfeel. Reminds me of a port more than a whiskey. Slight heat and oak on the finish hint that it is indeed whiskey. It would be a good substitute for port as a dessert spirit in small quantities.

The aroma is of blackberry wine and black licorice. The taste starts with sweet blackberry wine and finishes with well-aged whiskey. An interesting combination, and a good starting point for those transitioning from wine.

It's hot on the tongue at first but that fades quickly. Overall, it has fantastic blackberry notes and is smooth. There's no lingering whiskey burn; it's excellent with soda water and lime.
