Rum is prominent on the nose, with hints of molasses and banana. The palate exhibits the characteristic funk, with some syrup, faint smoke, a full body, and a slight ethanol burn on the finish despite only being 50.8% ABV. The first-fill demerara rum barrel is dominant but complements the distillate very well. It's a wonderful creation; it would likely be legendary if it were aged a few more years. This was a fortunate mistake, as it was mislabeled "Springbank 15 cask strength," which I assumed was Sherry. They were out of the rum cask 15 and offered this and the standard 15 as alternatives. Upon seeing it was a single cask and demerara rum, I immediately chose it.
