Appearance: Gleaming brass doorknob Nose: Faint smoke drifts through a ripe orchard. Smells of wet grass and engine grease, or an oily bicycle chain. More floral than smoky. Palate: Dry, white campfire ash quickly gives way to tart orchard fruits (apples, pears) with an iodine sting. Thick mouthfeel with a grainy texture. Finish: This is where the smoke appears. Charred oak hits me with a strong maritime character. A classic chemical peat blast. With water: The nose becomes almost floral, with a slight chemical note, but more akin to roses than bandages. The palate reveals much more sweetness, with honey, molasses, and a hint of toasted graham cracker. The finish retains its smoke but is gentler, with more orchard fruit notes.
