Speyside Single Malt from Morrison & MacKay, with an estimated 46% ABV. Likely an Auchroisk. This sample came from a friend, but it can be purchased for about $35 USD for 700mL. A 50mL pour costs around $2.50. It's from the Speyside region and is not chill-filtered. The aroma presents unripe green apples, fresh hay, salt, crystallized honey, and grassy notes. On the palate, expect grassy notes with a grassy funk, apple juice made from mostly cores and skins, light fruity bitterness, and black peppercorns. It's like apple juice pressed from unripe, subpar apples. The finish is a lingering, light, watered-down apple juice with fresh grass and hay. This received a score of 71/100. I've heard some off-putting descriptions, but my experience wasn't that extreme. It had a grassy/hay funk, but not terribly so. It reminded me of poorly made apple juice with some hay and fresh grass that had soaked in it. While not bad, it's not something I'd frequently choose. It had a bitter apple juice quality, similar to most Glenmorangie expressions (except Signet), which tends to put me off them. I might drink it if offered, but I wouldn't specifically order it or buy a bottle. Note: All reviews are done without factoring in price.
