Lina Seymour 3.5

Appearance: A pale yellow-gold hue. Aroma: Notes of peach, a trace of apricot, and a subtle hint of apple blossom in the background. Flavor and Texture: It begins light and sweet with a prominent peach flavor balanced by lively acidity. Sweet white wine notes appear in the middle palate alongside very mild grassy tones. The texture is sweet but not syrupy. A delightful product. I initially classified it as a bitter (the maker labels it as a wine-based apéritif), but upon further thought, aromatised wine seems a more fitting description. It lacks the bitterness to be served with other aperitifs and is unlike any amaro. If you're familiar with St Germain elderflower liqueur, there's a slight resemblance, though it's much less sweet. However, the closest comparison I can make is to Lillet Blanc. Rinquinquin (pronounced “ran-can-can”) is crafted by steeping peach pulp, leaves, and pits in sweet white wine. The result is a very delicate beverage that can be served chilled directly from the freezer over ice, or used as an aromatic foundation for subtle long drinks. The producer is Distilleries et Domains de Provence, also known for the excellent Henri Bardouin pastis and Gentien de Lure bitter aperitif. I found it enjoyable with tonic water and a thin slice of grapefruit, but Mrs consumed most of the bottle in a mix of 2oz Rinquinquin and 2oz moscato wine over ice in a tall glass, topped with soda water. “Good”: 83/100 (3.5 stars)
