Remus Repeal Reserve Series VII (2023 Medley)

Glassware: Glencairn, sat for 15 minutes. Appearance: Mid amber hue. Smell: Burnt sugar, crème anglaise, bruised peaches. Taste: Warm spice, pastry notes, pimento. Aftertaste: Lingering warmth, moderate intensity. Addition: A touch of woody astringency surfaces. General Impression: 7.5/10 - I've owned this bottle for some time, finally cracking it open. It was acquired as part of a package deal with Stagg, a purchase I wasn't enthusiastic about then. My initial thought was to exchange it, then it slipped my mind for a spell. Upon tasting, it's a decent bourbon, however, considering it's an MGP product at 100 proof and costing $100, my expectations were higher. A more affordable price would elevate its rating. It remains a solid bourbon, just not quite matching the cost.

It's enjoyable and easy to drink, but it needs something more to justify the price. The aroma is nice, and it has sweet cherry cordial pie flavors, but the finish is very brief. It drinks below 100 proof and has a thin mouthfeel. The liquid itself is very good, and if that were the only consideration for scoring, I'd give it a higher rating, but at $100 a bottle, it should offer a more satisfying conclusion.

Color: Golden Honey Nose: Delicate, faint sweetness, rye Taste: Sugary apple, baked rye, a bit slick but not thick on the palate, quite smooth. Finish: Lingering rye warmth at the conclusion, a rather gentle end. Overall: Smooth and approachable, nicely balanced between sweetness and rye spice. I drank it straight, but I imagine this would be a very sippable drink with ice on a hot day.

I was surprised by the slight burn at the end of this 100-proof bottle. It's a great ending that carries through. The palate is similar to the aroma, with vanilla and caramel. Very good.

Slightly better than I remember, pretty enjoyable! A bit more corn and rye forward.
