Redemption Barrel Proof 10 year High Rye Bourbon (2021, Batch 002)

It's 2021, and this is batch 002, bottle 18867, at 116.2 proof. The color is caramel-amber, with a prominent herbal, rye aroma. Rich brown sugar, salted caramel, warm pumpernickel bread, vanilla frosting, caraway, fresh mint, dry tobacco, and Maraschino cherries. The palate is viscous and heavy, featuring abundant, almost grainy MGP “dill” spice, which to me is more akin to a fusion of cedar, tobacco, clove, and eucalyptus. I'd be keen to compare this directly with a Boone Co Eighteen-33 year single barrel. This expression offers more brown sugar and baked goods compared to the caramel/corn-forward notes. It also possesses a pleasant quality reminiscent of licking old oak furniture. However, it doesn't quite reach the “dusty library books” level of well-aged, mellowed tannins. A substantial Kentucky embrace. Primarily sweet, with a long finish marked by bursts of wood (pine?) and herbs. I will be purchasing another bottle, and if you appreciate older MGP, or similar spirits like SAOS rye, Boone Co single barrels, or current Remus Reserve, you should consider it too.
