Rich and complex, there are mild caramels, cereal, and oak notes mingling, quickly overtaken by plums, black pepper, anise, and intense earthy peat. There is a slight hint of honey sweetness but requires significant effort to detect. The finish is long and full of smoke, brine, peat, and pepper. Askaig appears to be a favorite among all my Ardbeg fans as the flavor profiles are typically similar, especially the way the peat comes through. For $70 it's a great drink.
