Mckinley Bland 4.3

Kentucky Peerless “Alpine Summer” single barrel. 112 proof Its color is a rich, warm brown with golden highlights, reminiscent of a certain 90s music video. This is incredibly aromatic even before trying to smell it; the whiskey aromas escape and hint at the experience to come. The aroma presents notes of dark chocolate, damp earth, and a light forest floor scent, not piney but more musty and dank. The first taste offers hints of meadow grass, pine, and bitter chocolate. The second taste adds mid-palate notes of nutmeg, lavender, and cinnamon. It possesses a spectrum of baking spice that leads into a pleasant, extended finish. The finish and mouthfeel seem contradictory. On one hand, the mouthfeel is light and doesn't align with the length of the finish (an inky or oily texture would be expected). However, as the finish progresses, a mix of dryness and moisture is present on the palate (typically, one or the other is dominant). A superb illustration of why Kentucky Peerless ranks among my top 5 distilleries.
