This bourbon revives a spirit initially produced in 1876 by the H.E. Pogue Distillery, registered in Kentucky as #3. The distillery ceased operations during Prohibition, resumed, and then closed again during World War II. In 2005, the brand was revived by descendants of the original family, releasing Old Pogue Bourbon as their primary offering. While their own whiskey matures, they offer a sourced Kentucky straight bourbon aged for nine years and presented at 45.5% ABV, with the distillery being the most likely place to find a bottle.

The nose is full of cherry, almost like cherry syrup. This is one of the smoothest bourbons I've encountered. Despite lacking some heat/bite, it's excellent. It's also sweeter than my usual preference, with abundant vanilla and cherry, evoking some Cherry Garcia characteristics. There's a touch of cinnamon later on and very mild oak for a 9-year-old spirit.
The nose offers sweet grass and grain, reminiscent of Irish whiskey. The body is very smooth on the tongue, with vanilla and honeysuckle followed by grass and raw peanuts. The finish continues the grass notes with a hint of lemon zest. Very good!
This is what bourbon ought to be! Delightful vanilla and caramel notes are complemented by drier oak and tobacco flavors. The finish is a pleasing, extended harmony of vanilla, oak, and leather. A true pleasure to drink.
Smells like caramel and cherry. Tastes of pepper, then vanilla, spice, sweet corn, and caramel. It's well-balanced and not overly complex. A great bourbon, but I wouldn't spend more than $40 on it.
A classic, well-crafted bourbon, especially impressive for a craft distillery, though quite pricey. Not worth $100.
Sweetness at the beginning, with only a burn at the back of the throat. I'd say it's comparable to Blanton's.
