About this bottle

Old Forester 150th Anniversary Bourbon Batch 02 is one of three bottlings created to commemorate the anniversary of founder George Garvin Brown's first sale of bottled bourbon. Brown revolutionized the whiskey business by selling his product in bottles instead of barrels, the standard practice at the time. Master distiller Chris Morris chose 150 barrels for this release, but the angel's share significantly reduced the volume in some. Master taster Jackie Zykan blended the three bourbons, all of which are unfiltered and bottled at their respective batch strengths. Batch 02 contains 48 barrels and has a strength of 63.2% ABV.

Trinity Jansen 4.5

This shares many characteristics with the barrel-proof single barrel I keep at home, but it is definitely smoother. The finish warms gently and dissipates, leaving behind the subtle notes of Old Forester that I appreciate. It's fantastic and definitely worth sampling, but not at inflated secondary market prices.

Lupe Speer 3.8

You can immediately tell this is barrel proof... Nose: Dark cherry, berry, and banana, typical of the OF brand. The taste is even more cherry and banana, finishing with a peppery cherry cola. The burn drops off abruptly at the end. A great finish, though slightly lacking.

Emanuel Massie 4.3

Possibly the highest alcohol content beverage I've ever had. It's understandably hot, but I don't see the point in diluting it with water when it could have been balanced to the optimal alcohol content before bottling. It's difficult to judge accurately due to its intensity.

Zoey Rodas 4.8

The aroma is primarily vanilla and oak. It's dry and sweet, with a strong oak presence, vanilla, and baking spices. It has a spicy and rich flavor.

Savanna Youngblood 4.5

A superb blend of banana and cherry cola notes that lead to a harmonious finish.

Fidel Poindexter 2.8

This was the least favored of the 150 anniversary batches. It was entirely like cough syrup.
