Old Big Peat, LMDW 60th Anniversary

Douglas Laing offers a very good range of blended malt expressions, and one of the most well-known is "Big Peat". To commemorate their 60th anniversary, "La Maison du Whisky" released a special edition called "Old Big Peat", bottled at 50% ABV with a pale yellow color. The nose presents incredibly aromatic peat. Cigarettes; very perfumed. Heather and mint hard candy. There's a subtle saltiness and maritime character. Green grapes. After the initial taste, it became much more perfumed. Very floral. There are some sugar syrup notes. It is truly very floral. The palate was quite interesting. Chocolate with salt, very saline. Meaty, yet easy to drink. There's an incredibly appealing milk and sugar note. Very syrupy, very sugary, milky, followed by a salty touch. The finish is a bit disappointing, especially considering the excellent palate and nose. Wisps of smoke, tobacco, hay, a grassy note. A short finish. Too short. Overall, my rating will be influenced by a rather mild aftertaste, as it possesses a lovely nose and a very appealing palate, but a boring, short, and weak finish. Like other "Big Peat" expressions, I find them not overly peaty, but rather perfumed and pleasantly so. My score for this is 82 out of 100.
