Sage Ashley 4.0

Aroma: Robust, oily, and malty with lemon zest, vanilla, treacle, and toasted oak. Further nosing reveals brine, and dilution doesn't diminish its strong character. Taste: Similar to the aroma, the palate is substantial and rich, featuring prominent oily malt. Citrus, a bit of pepper, and tannic spice emerge as it develops. The texture is oily and dense. Finish: Medium/Short. Oily lemon and cereal notes. The aroma is very impressive and showcases how rich and satisfying a straightforward, oily cereal profile can be. It improves with resting in the glass and even more so with a touch of water. The palate also benefits from dilution, gaining a smooth creaminess and better integration. This differs significantly from the older distillery limited edition, being more like a more intense version of the 14-year-old core release. This is an excellent whiskey, definitely worth trying if you visit the distillery, though many might prefer the sherry character of the Distillers Edition. I would happily purchase either (or both). Oban is a distillery I used to overlook, which was an error. “Very Good”: 85/100 (4 stars)
