Muckle Flugga Single Malt

Nose: Spicy, vanilla, summer fruit, caramel, slightly floral. Palate: Flavors reminiscent of sherry, dried fruit, sweetness, orchard fruit, and heather honey. Subtle oak and a touch of minerality. Finish: A moderately long conclusion. Citrus, Granny Smith apples. Additional oak and honey, with more noticeable hay/floral elements than on the palate. A sour note lingers. This whisky, named for an island northeast of the Scottish mainland, originates from an anonymous Speyside distillery. It's matured in fresh Sherry oak barrels, then spends a year aging in the Shetland Islands before returning to mainland Scotland for bottling. Quite the journey for the environment! A sherried, smooth, and straightforward spirit. While not outstanding, its somewhat oily texture, sherry and dried fruit profile, with hints of wood and hay, maintain engagement. Suitable for extended enjoyment.

This spirit is at the very peak of my "best value" whiskey list. It's a delightful blend of chocolate and nuts. It lacks the bite of less expensive spirits. the finish is smooth and satisfying. It's challenging to locate, but I anticipate it will rapidly gain popularity. I know I'll regret its affordability as it surpasses more well-known brands and its price increases.

I have absolutely no idea what a Muckle Flugga is – it can't be Gaelic; it sounds like a name invented by Jim Henson – but it was surprisingly delightful. There's oak and vanilla on the nose (bourbon influence), with honey and carnation on the palate. It's well-balanced but lacks intensity, and the low ABV detracts from it. Still, not bad. Cheers!
