About this bottle

The Mortlach Special Strength is a limited bottling, exclusively distributed in travel retail locations globally. It utilizes first and second-fill American and European oak casks, some of which are recharred. Bottled at a higher alcohol by volume than its age-stated counterparts, this expression is part of Diageo's strategy to elevate Mortlach's standing in the single malt market.

Vernon Metz 3.5

The nose is savory, with cinnamon, a creamy sensation, wood, and a strong alcohol presence. The palate is dominated by heavily charred wood; unlike more recent bottlings from the same distillery, it lacks sweetness. The finish leaves a lingering impression of charcoal embers.

Kurtis Youngblood 3.8

A touch of sweetness, with notes of cocoa and cinnamon, plus a whisper of salt. Medium body. Faint woodsmoke aroma, a warm sensation on the palate that quickly fades.

Dina Casillas 3.8

A commendable drink. It has a robust, sulfuric character, but the aftertaste is somewhat astringent and lacking. I would not purchase a bottle. Rating: 3.75

Deloris Forte 4.0

Ice enhances the flavor. Very smooth.
