Mortlach 1995 19 Year (Alexander Murray & Co.)

This distillery, based in the Speyside area, is known as "The Beast of Dufftown" due to its robust, sulfuric, and intense smoked meat flavor. It is owned by Diageo and features a complex distillation process with six stills, where their single malt spirits are uniquely distilled 2.81 times. Much of this whisky is used in Johnnie Walker Black Label, leaving limited stock for its own single malt bottlings. The aromas, tastes, and finish are powerful, substantial, and full. The nose presents orange marmalade, honey, cashews, berry preserves, and hints of smoked meat. The palate begins with simple sweetness, followed by lemon hard candy, black pepper spice, campfire smoke, and grilled meat. The finish is smooth, with smoked nut and meat flavors, and a subtle creamy vanilla custard note at the very end.

Very smooth. Light peat on the nose, with hints of salinity and a textured toffee character.
