Appearance: Resembles beige-colored caramel milk. Aroma: Similar to Baileys Irish Cream, but gentler and without any whiskey notes, just a neutral alcohol scent. Flavor & Texture: Very subtle coffee flavor, almost nonexistent. The dominant tastes are caramel and vanilla, with a faint hint of chocolate. The texture is pleasing, creamy without being too thick or heavy. This liqueur is produced at the Helfta Cistercian monastery in Eisleben, established in the 13th century and operational until 1545. The property was revived in 1999, once again housing Cistercian nuns. The monastery also makes dry and barrel-aged gin. If you appreciate moderately sweet, creamy liqueurs, you'll enjoy this. However, if you seek a full-bodied liqueur with a pronounced coffee taste (like Mr Black, for instance), pass on this. It's pleasant and easy to savor, but the coffee character is so weak it's barely a coffee liqueur, and overall it's too generic to recommend. “Adequate”: 74/100 (2.25 stars)
