Haven Carr 4.0

Participated in a virtual tasting of this expression on October 21, 2021. The aroma offered notes of fruit, flowers, fortified wine, red berries, strawberries, hazelnuts, and orange liqueur. Oak was present but not overpowering, and the high alcohol content was unnoticeable. The taste was full-bodied with rich stewed fruits and berries. It began sweet, gradually revealing a dryness. Red fruit and wine flavors evolved before yielding to orange marmalade. The texture was excellent, possessing both drying and oily qualities. A slight warmth from the alcohol was barely perceptible. The finish was medium, featuring fruitiness and dryness, with a lingering dark chocolate aftertaste. While I hadn't explored this producer's whiskies before, a recent virtual tasting of five different ones sparked my curiosity. This dram was among my favorites from the event, and in my view, it stood out significantly from the others (with one exception). It's quite enjoyable neat and also benefits from a little water, which adds softness and sweetness without compromising its complexity or balance. This whisky was the first from this maker that I would consider purchasing, but unfortunately, it's one of the pricier options at AUD$225 for a 500ml bottle. Very Good: 86/100 (4 stars)
