61.5% Barrel No 5 The hue is quite appealing, a lovely dark amber shade. The aroma is impressive. Very fruity, with hints of strawberry, raspberry, lemon, and pineapple. More traditional bourbon characteristics are present as well; this is 13 years old. Abundant sweet oak, toffee, and a minty chocolate sensation (reminiscent of Andes Mints, if you know them) offer some balance to the fruitiness radiating from the nose. Absolutely no ethanol present. A strong yet smooth arrival, delivering abundant flavor immediately. Sweet oak takes the lead, followed by fruit in the form of raspberry and blackberry, with a touch of raisin at the conclusion. Caramel and vanilla frosting appear shortly thereafter, but cherry and caramel are prominent on the finish. The taste is intricate, and the finish is lengthy and impactful. My only critique is the texture. I anticipated a bit more for a 13-year barrel-proof expression. It's not unpleasant by any means. It possesses substance, but this bourbon would be nearly flawless if it were slightly creamier and coated the mouth more. It also seems to be missing some spice for my preference. I was hoping for some cinnamon or clove, perhaps even black pepper. However, the fruit and sweet oak are the prevailing elements. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
