Maker's Mark Private Select (Fireside Spice)

I acquired this a couple of months ago because I liked a couple of other wood finish series. MM has done a commendable job developing distinct taste profiles using 10 staves from five different types of oak. I appreciate that the stave combinations are listed directly on the label. This bottle has been open for two months, and about a third is gone. I can't say I've noticed any difference in the tastings so far. It has a rich amber color and leaves quick trails on the swirl. The nose is restrained, with hints of sweet bread and vanilla. A couple of drops of water reveal brown sugar. Very little ethanol. The palate is quite sweet and straightforward. The mouthfeel is thin. I was surprised to see it's 108.4 proof. The finish is short and dry, leaving me wanting more. It's been a while since I've had 46 cs, but I'd venture to say it might be superior, especially since this one costs nearly double.

Glassware: Glencairn. Appearance: Beautiful dark amber color. Nose: Bread and baking spices. Palate: Baking spices, especially cinnamon. Finish: Warm and lingering cinnamon. A strong 9/10 rating. It might improve further as it airs out.

I've never been impressed by Maker's Mark before, but this one has spice, oak, and is remarkably smooth.
