Macduff 11yo Masters of Magic "the Absorbing Question do the Spirits Materialize?"

My second tasting from the "Masters of Magic" collection is from a distillery I haven't tried before, and one that has a decent reputation in some circles. I'm referring to Macduff, a relatively "new" distillery established in 1960. It's situated in the Scottish Highlands, near the coast. This second release from the Masters of Magic features a striking and whimsical label depicting Blackstone the Great, a renowned magician famous for his act of conjuring spirits. This is an 11-year-old Macduff, bottled at 46% ABV. On the nose, it begins with hazelnut, wafer, and chocolate notes, along with sawdust, camphor, and almonds. It's buttery. After a few sips, I detected an aroma of spicy marmalade. On the palate, it's remarkably creamy. Chocolate notes and red chili are present. It has the texture of a thick, creamy cheese. The finish is excellent. Chocolate, red chili, and tabasco sauce are evident. It's wonderfully spicy with a lulo fruit acid finish. Overall, this was quite an experience. Many unexpected flavors and aromas emerged, with several bold notes. The sweetness and spiciness blend in a delightful, intriguing manner. I'm unsure if all Macduff whiskies are similar, but this distillery has captured my attention. I will definitely seek out more expressions from them. My rating for this truly enjoyable and fun single malt is 91 out of 100.
