Macallan 15 Year Triple Cask Matured

Nose - Good blend of raisins and ripe apples, dark honey, apple/grape leather, mild cinnamon "spice" Taste - Mild ginger spice/heat/tingle, apples, light raisin, dark honey, faint bitter fruit stems Finish - Lingering apple, ginger heat remains, fading bitter fruit stems that seem to grow in intensity Score - 77/100 Final Thoughts - I wanted to enjoy this a bit more than I did, especially after stating their products are typically decent, but it was overly hyped and unfortunately it all kind of fell apart after the initial aroma. The aroma was decent, with a good balance of oak and sherry notes of raisins, and seemed quite pleasant overall. The palate started off nicely but had a bit more ginger spice/heat/tingle than anticipated for a 43% and this somewhat concealed the apple & raisin character. Adding to this was the presence of an odd bitterness that took over halfway through and just persisted to the finish, where it became somewhat distracting. It lingered long through the finish and it felt like your palate was struggling against the fruit stem bitterness to discover the sweet apples and raisins you initially tasted. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - No Would I buy a bottle? - No NOTE - All reviews are done without factoring in price.

While I'm not the biggest fan of Macallan, I must admit that every time I try a 15-year-old expression from this distillery, I'm very impressed. This is the Triple Cask Matured, 2018 release, which I think has replaced the 15-year-old Fine Oak, or perhaps I'm mistaken. Bottled at 43% ABV, with a golden color. The nose was stunning. An intense aroma of raisins, intense aroma of sawdust, intense aroma of hazelnut. It smelled just like a power bar; the dates, butterscotch, and nuttiness were spectacular. Wedding cake, dry chocolate cake. Simply incredible. The palate was delicious. Chocolate cake, dry dates, nutty. The tobacco note is awesome. The aftertaste was very good, though it's the weakest part of this whiskey. Tobacco, dry grass, oak spice. Sawdust. Medium long. Overall, this clearly carries the Macallan character, but in a good way (Haha). I believe this is a great offering, and it is certainly more expensive than most 15-year-olds, but if you want to buy a Macallan to impress others and you like the brand, I recommend this one. My score is 93 out of 100.

This is my first time trying any Macallan. I received this bottle as a gift and am very grateful. Poured neat, the aroma is of deep sweet fruits and buttery malt. Tangerine, dates, and a hint of white grape surrounded by autumn leaves and gentle oak. Very refined. The palate has rich, thick malt and fruits transitioning to wood notes, then robust French roast coffee & cream. It has some warmth but still remains mellow. Finishes long with malt, fruit, and dark chocolate fading dry to coffee and wood. This is not inexpensive scotch; it sells for $90-120. A truly excellent, sophisticated single malt, but is it worth it? Macallan has a reputation for being a bit pricey. It depends on your financial situation. I wish I could exclusively drink these high-end aged scotches as they are sublime to my palate, but alas, the credit card bill eventually arrives. For my money in this age range, I would choose Glenfiddich 15 or Balvenie 14 over this for less money; however, I can't rate it below an A despite the price, as the quality and excellence are undeniable..........91/100.

A- amber +1, high viscosity N- Oh yeah, definitely Macallan, fruity (red berries, plums, apricots), sweet (honey, toffee, vanilla, crème brûlée), wet oak P- medium, gentle spicy arrival, full, rich, OILY, sweet (honey, vanilla, toffee, white chocolate, burnt sugar), fruity (plums, apricots, dried fruits), walnuts, wet oak F- medium finish, sweet/oaky aftertaste C- Gentle dram, balanced, and delicious. Good pour! Again, do your research and DO NOT overpay; there are many GREAT options out there.

I should have realized this triple cask version of the 15-year-old Macallan wouldn't be the best. I recently compared it to four other 15-year-olds, including Yoishi, Glengoyne, Glen Scotia, and Glendronach Revival. The Glengoyne tasted flat, and the Macallan was slightly sour, placing them at the bottom. I had higher expectations for this expression from Scotland.

The aroma is pleasant but not exceptional; it's quite basic, though on the good side of basic, delivering fruity and malty scents. The palate is also light with malty, fruity, and baked sweet notes – again, not bad but light and lacking significant complexity. The finish is soft and sweet, and my favorite part of this Scotch.
