Alessandra Serrano 4.0

Lustau Amontillado Los Arcos, dry Jerez-Xeres sherry, solera familiar. 18.5 % ABV. Tasted at cool room temperature. Deep rose brown color with coating legs in the glass. The nose is nutty, with notes of cherry and grapes, and red wine. In the mouth, there's a big rush of sweet and sour grape wine, earthy compost, minerals, and light oak. The finish is quick, with the sourness turning mineral dry and leaving a light earthy sweetness on the tongue. Again, I'm not an expert on sherry – I primarily use them for mixing cocktails and cooking. This one is considerably more robust and assertive than the Lustau Oloroso Don Nuno I sampled recently (at 20% ABV). Is this due to the solera aging? I don't know enough. But I do recognize that I appreciate that more assertive flavor in cocktails and cooking, if not for casual sipping.
