Longrow 14 Year

Initial impression - I've already messed up. Nose - It's fantastic, truly. But what is it? It's incredibly sweet. It has that unique Longrow character, but with a strong presence of barley and some type of wine cask influence; I'm unsure of the exact maturation. I'm guessing bourbon and sherry, with a significant sherry component. There's a savory, no, not savory note. It's akin to maple brown sugar bacon, but with less salt and sugar. It gives off a creamy aroma, if that's possible. Taste - Intense for 46% ABV, this spirit doesn't hold back, starting with a massive and vibrant impact. It's sweet, savory, funky, unusual, and absolutely delicious. The mouthfeel on the finish is delicate, and after the assertive peat and sherry mellow, you remember it's 46% ABV, yet it delivers abundant flavor. I detect some sulfur, but it's primarily smoked wood followed by that tangy Springbank BBQ sauce note. It's just rich, full, and incredibly amazing stuff. Topped off with spice and sugar cookies. I've always appreciated the 18-year for its wonderful flavor profile, though it sometimes feels too subtle and mild. This expression packs a serious punch. I was surprised to pay only around 150 before a substantial shipping fee, but I purchased in quantity, so it's all good. Overall, a remarkably good whisky, and I desire more. I'm genuinely enjoying this. 3.75...it's that good

I have sampled Longrow numerous times, truly I have. But this connection is not functioning. We ought to be quite compatible. I enjoy Springbank. I enjoy peat. However, something about your pairing of the two leaves me feeling uncertain. Perhaps it's because I prefer my smoke to be robust, and you tend toward the sweet. Or perhaps it's that yeasty middle taste that fails to impress me. Don't get me wrong, you're fine for a fleeting encounter: that yeast is improved with a touch of cream and your soy sauce and mint chocolate flavors are welcome additions. But I don't see a future together, regardless of your age. In any case, I'm infatuated with Kilkerran. Sorry.

Springbank stands as one of my preferred Scotch distilleries, offering a superb balance of salty and sweet notes with perfectly integrated peat.
