Maude Ratliff 4.5

Nose: Intriguing, intense plum notes alongside juicy peach and a bouquet of violets, with a subtle smokiness and glowing embers. An excellent aroma. Palate: Consistently light peat, gentle and pleasing; I honestly didn't anticipate finding this. It reminds me of a certain Islay distillery. Then, a triumph of plums and cherries, enveloped in honey. It has a sweet, briny quality. Excellent again. Finish: Medium-long, peaty, and smoky, leaving a pleasant briny sensation in the mouth. The very end has a slightly bitter note that isn't ideal. Verdict: I have to be honest, I never expected this; it's a truly outstanding whisky! Without that touch of bitterness at the end, it would have received perfect marks. Rating: 4.50

I attended a masterclass and sampled 12, 14, 18, and 21-year-old expressions. The 14-year-old offers the best value for its quality in my opinion.
