This was another limited release from last year, available at the Tobermory distillery and online. It spent its last two years in hogsheads that previously held Rioja wine, suggesting it was initially in ex-bourbon casks. The aroma is characterized by sharp peat with a subtle sweet undertone. Some heather notes appear as it sits. It improves when diluted to 50%, revealing minty and savory characteristics. The palate, common with many older Ledaigs, is dominated by peat – it arrives too soon and too forcefully. However, with water, you can discern raspberry flavors amidst the spice and a long, oily finish with a cranberry savoriness. The combination of peat and red wine can be challenging, and the balance here isn't quite right. Still, it's worth sampling for the fruity notes, and I'm pleased to have another sample for further adjustments.

Subtle smokiness with a touch of sweetness. Initial caramel notes transition to vanilla.
