Kuiper Belt Kentucky Bourbon

This spirit from a well-known distillery is a blend with a specific grain and rye composition, aged for eight years and bottled at 45% ABV. The aroma is nearly rich and welcoming, starting with butterscotch pudding and well-integrated oak spice, followed by chocolate-covered pecan confections. It then presents subtle fruity notes of star anise-spiced baked pears, freshly opened mandarin orange cups, and Morello cherry preserves, transitioning to spearmint, cloves, polished leather, and mahogany furniture, accompanied by a mild ethanol burn. The taste has a medium body, beginning with a slight astringency, butterscotch candy, and balanced oak spice. This is followed by chocolate pecan pie with a slightly charred crust, then star anise-spiced baked pears, mandarin oranges, and sour cherries, evolving into spearmint, cloves, leather, and polished mahogany, with a moderate ethanol presence. The finish is of medium duration, featuring chocolate pecan pie, mandarin orange zest, star anise-spiced baked pears, and hints of leather and polished mahogany. This is an exceptionally well-balanced bourbon, offering classic bourbon characteristics with a touch of rye spice and rich oak. However, it suffers from a slight youthful astringency, and the 45% ABV dilutes the flavors. If it were bottled at 50% ABV, it would have been outstanding. I compared it to a higher proof spirit from Old Carter (Batch 1, 58.75% ABV), and while close, the higher proof spirit delivered more intense and robust flavors, which would have been even more pronounced at an elevated proof. Considering its retail price, it's a great bourbon that would satisfy many, especially those seeking a lower-proof, easy-drinking option.

Nose: A dominant caramel aroma with very little ethanol, plus vanilla and brown sugar. Palate: It coats the mouth thickly, with a bit of fruit like orange peel zest and barrel spice. Finish: No "Kentucky hug" here. It's short and lacks heat. Overall, this is an excellent pour. In fact, it's fantastic and dangerously "smooth." An easy-drinking whiskey. Highly recommended.

Very aged tasting. Numerous complex flavor dimensions. Oak is prominent on the prolonged conclusion.
