About this bottle

Distilled in 1994, this single malt Speyside scotch whisky underwent an 18-year maturation process in sherry casks. Knockando's name originates from the Scottish Gaelic phrase 'cnock an dhu', signifying 'little black hill', and is also the designation of the town where the distillery is situated alongside the River Spey.

This is certainly unique. The sherry isn't cloying or sweet; instead, it's dry, woody, and full of nuts. The nose has dry sherry and faint fruity notes, nothing more. The palate begins sweet before becoming quite dry, similar to a robust red wine. Additionally, there are some nutty undertones and significant oak. The finish is primarily dry oak, which persists for a considerable time. Overall, it's an acceptable drink, but it could use more depth. Perhaps a higher proof would be beneficial. (84/100)

I'm uncertain if I dislike this or detest it, so I'm awarding it a neutral three stars and leaving the matter unresolved. This whisky does have sherry notes, but they're not pleasant; the aroma is essentially honey and fermented fruit compote. The palate is entirely dull and weak, with a regrettably long finish. Yes, it's mostly a two-star experience. Anyway...

Nose: pears, peach, almonds, hazelnuts Palate: pears, salt, mild woodiness, chocolate A budget version of Dalmore 18, excellent value for money.

I sampled the 1996 version. It was certainly fruitier compared to the standard 12-year. A good choice for those who dislike Islay whiskies.

Sweet and pleasant. However, it's easily forgotten. An average sherried whisky you'll easily drink and forget.
