King's Creek Black Label Cider

A complex cider from Tennessee, created by combining sour mash whiskey (with a mash bill primarily of corn, plus some rye & barley), slow-filtered through maple charcoal chips, and aged for 4 years, with apple cider. It presents an aromatic beginning with hints of apple & spices; a spirited middle adds notes of allspice, cinnamon & nutmeg; leading to a rich, medium-length conclusion with flavors of maple & oak. I misread the label when purchasing, assuming it was a cider with whiskey notes. In reality, it's a whiskey with cider characteristics. My mistake. That explains why I couldn't locate it on Untapped. However, it doesn't excel as either. The whiskey component is uninspired and mild, lacking any distinctive qualities. The cider aspect presents flavors of fructose, malic acid, and cinnamon. At the very least, it's not terrible, right?

You can't really detect the whiskey, but it's not an issue. This is essentially a pre-made mulled cider, full of apple and baking spice flavors. A fantastic holiday liqueur.

The aroma is somewhat damp, but the palate delivers notes of apple and cinnamon. It's overly sweet. Lacks a distinct whiskey character, though a pleasant warmth is present. Not as satisfying as spiced wine.

Very enjoyable, excellent flavor. Not precisely what I'd classify as bourbon or whiskey, but a fantastic holiday beverage nonetheless.

Nose: Cinnamon, Apple, Vanilla, Warm Spices Palate: Sweet, smooth taste.
