Kinahan's small batch

Note - I'm participating in the Really Good Whisky Company Advent Calendar. I've also decided to taste these whiskeys blind (or as close as I can manage), first providing notes on the aroma, taste, and finish. I will then reveal the label, proof, cask type, etc., before writing my remaining observations. I'll offer some estimations regarding factors like proof and cask type and then see how far off I was. Cheers! Aroma: Vanilla, green apple, brown sugar, and a light cinnamon playfully interacting. I suspect this isn't a single malt; I'm detecting some grain whisky characteristics, like ripe bananas. There's no off-putting new make funk, indicating some age. Perhaps it's Irish? My guess is 43% ABV and 100% former bourbon casks. A very subtle hint of smoke, likely from barrel char, is hidden, almost resembling deeply roasted malts or burnt nuts. Shortbread and citrus frosting notes are also present. Taste: Pleasant. Vanilla, stewed apples, and subtle orange blossoms. A touch of tannin and oak emerges, but it's not overpowering, bringing forth notes of butterscotch and coffee. Bananas and whipped cream are also detected. I have a feeling the ABV might be higher, but I always seem to be wrong when I second-guess myself during these blind tastings. It coats the palate smoothly from front to back, and while it's subtle, it isn't harsh or heavy. Medium body. Finish: Honey, lemon, allspice. The oak reappears, contributing a slight tannic bitterness that reminds me of dark-roast coffee. Bananas and mint emerge, and the flavors fade, with vanilla, honey, and fruit trading dominance. Medium duration. Additional notes: Tonight's findings - I correctly identified the region, style, and cask types, as well as that it was a blend. I have no idea about the age. I was off by 3% on the proof. Success! I have a fondness for Irish whiskey, particularly these more accessible varieties that aren't overwhelming. It's so easy to drink that I often overlook it when looking for something new. However, whenever I take the time to truly savor one, I'm impressed by its quality. They typically showcase that complexity, depth, richness, and proof aren't the only indicators of quality. Balance, subtlety, nuance, and integration are qualities I've come to value more recently. This is an excellent example of that - it's skillfully made and accurately represents its style. I'll have to try and purchase a bottle if I come across one while shopping. Well done. Cheers!
