Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 6

The aroma is rich with sweet notes of scorched wood, peat, and malt, complemented by hints of sea salt and smoke. It possesses an inviting creamy texture. Surprisingly smooth for a cask strength bottling. The initial taste is subtle, gradually building with black pepper, peat, and smoke, creating a substantial mouthfeel. The smoke is a subtle base that unifies the other elements harmoniously. Milder notes of malt, leather, and vanilla provide excellent balance. It's restrained for its type, which is not a drawback. The flavor intensity is high without being overly smoky or medicinal. The finish is of moderate length, with persistent notes of wood, peat, and malt, and a slight chew that leaves a tingle. An excellent introduction to heavily peated, cask strength Scotch, though it could benefit from more smoke to match its heavily peated designation. Still, it's a very pleasing drink.

At 57.4%, it's intense. A few drops of water tame the heat and smooth it out sufficiently. There's a buttery, oaky funk that I detect as apricot. The peat is prominent, and the smoke is moderate. Altogether, a VERY high-quality scotch.

Nose: sour apples, smoke Palate: tropical fruit, peat, ash Finish: ash, more sourness There are some hints of greatness here, but the sourness is very off-putting.

Not my preferred choice.
