Kentucky Nectar Batch #8

Nose: Floral like honeysuckle with a hint of caramel and brown sugar. Palate: Initially herbaceous black tea, then sweeter notes like nougat, followed by oak and a touch of ethanol, which is mellowed with a little water. A burst of waxy candy corn and a bit-o-honey candy bar emerge. Nicely layered, the honey is not excessive. Finish: The finish is lengthy, showcasing the cask influence with a final burst of clover honey. Overall: A pleasant, though not exceptional, bottle. The positives: for a honey-finished bourbon, it avoids being overly sweet. It remains bourbon-forward with a subtle honey touch, rather than tasting like a honey sweetener. The finish is its strong suit, well-balanced and unfolding smoothly. The negatives: the cost! This is a premium price for an age-stated-less whiskey with no clear origin. To justify that, it needs to be outstanding. It's merely interesting and a nice sipping bourbon, properly finished and presented in a great bottle, for over $100.00.
