Kavalan Solist Cask Strength Sherry Cask

Heads up. I'm about to reveal a key point from this whisky review: this might be among the finest sherried whiskies I've ever encountered. Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask has established its reputation, earning numerous accolades for its single cask releases. It possesses the deepest reddish hue imaginable, appearing mahogany. Bottled at 58.7% ABV, prepare yourself for an incredible sherry explosion. From the very first moment on the nose, you know this is going to be extraordinary. Maraschino cherries dipped in Dr. Pepper soda, enveloped in sweet figs. Dates, figs, and coffee. It's an absolutely incredible aroma. Cocoa, chocolate, and oranges. The palate is pure bliss. Chocolate, cherries, red fruits. A hint of sulfur, tart prunes, and tobacco. The finish is out of this world. Plums and intensely winey red fruits. Sulfur and something I can only describe as metallic intensity. Chewing tobacco. Overall, imagine the "perfection" internet meme. This is so unforgettable that my only regret is owning just a 20cl bottle, half of which I've already consumed. Kavalan is absolutely remarkable, and if you have the opportunity to try it, seize it. Nose: pear, plum. Taste: starts gentle, then fig, a sharp burn, followed by a brief smoky, slightly peaty character like Scotch, shifting to tobacco and oak flavors that gradually diminish, with hints of caramel and plum reappearing on the finish. With ice: nicely softens the harsh transitions, smoothing everything out. More caramel in the taste and it softens the tobacco. Overall an interesting pour. Definitely more Scotch than bourbon due to the lack of sweetness.

Intense sherry notes with raisins and dark fruits, complemented by a hint of cotton candy. The palate reveals intense dried sherry, a medley of raisins, some dry oak, and dark red fruits. It concludes with a long-lasting, sherried finish and an oily mouthfeel. Remarkable.
