Kavalan's cask strength whiskies are truly outstanding. If you have the opportunity to acquire any of them, seize it. They have been sourcing remarkable barrels for their spirits, which are somewhat expensive for non-age-stated expressions, but they are entirely worthwhile. This Kavalan Selection Brandy Cask Matured, bottled for La Maison Du Whisky, is one of only 370 distinct bottles, and it's bottled at 59.4% ABV for enhanced flavor, delightful. The nose is sublime. Stewed apples are noticeable immediately upon opening. Some intense peach marmalade. Unperceivable sugar. It's like stewed tropical fruits. Red fruitiness emerges after a few seconds. Hazelnut, tiramisu dessert. There's definitely a rich honey present. Fresh pineapples, cocoa. Cough syrup. It strongly evokes brandy. A beautiful aroma. A cup of black coffee with 3 spoonfuls of sugar perfectly captures the scent. I could spend all day just smelling this. The palate offers wonderful citrus flavors. Tangerine, salt. There's hay, it has become grassy, yet still citrusy. Pineapple, peaches. Very refined. Definitely a warm honey note. A bit too potent. The aftertaste is divine. Tobacco, intensely citrusy and acidic tangerines. A hint of smoke is present. A very sophisticated, oily finish. It's delicious, like a sugar rush combined with some pepper. Oh my, I love this finish; even if the primary flavors don't linger extensively, it's like a sweet candle smoke in your throat. Quite remarkable. NOTE: It is so oily that only one sip remains due to its viscosity; it never reaches your mouth, clinging to the Glencairn glass. Overall, this is another exceptional single malt from Kavalan. I've sampled a few from them, and all have been outstanding. This one is no different; the brandy characteristics are present, the stewed fruits, the marmalade, the citrus acidity, it is very complex and delicious. An enjoyable whisky for more seasoned enthusiasts, as its potency can be a little overwhelming, which is why it lost a significant number of points. My final rating for this marvelous "juice" is 92 out of 100.
