Jura The Loch

Could this be a peaty Dalmore? It's a pity to rate it so low at 4.0. This fantastic dram is truly regrettable. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would absolutely suggest it. Presented at 44.5% alcohol. Gleaming mahogany color. It was aged in barrels that held Pedro Ximenez sherry for three decades. Amazing! Excellent on the nose. Very much sherry-forward, dominated by raisins. Notes include: dark fruits, raisins, a touch of heather peat, dry brown grass, red fruits, berries, and those chocolate-covered raisins known as Raisinets. Superb on the palate. Divine taste. I really savored it. I held it in my mouth for an extended period. Chocolate, peppery spice, sherry, raisins. Delicious. Peat is subtle, mostly heather peat. Full marks here. So.... where did it lose most of its points.... aftertaste is extremely faint. Perhaps brief. It truly is faint. It leaves your mouth with the sensation of having eaten too many raisins. You can even sense the raisin fragments. A hint of clove and the slightest touch of salt. It could have been longer. It could have been more intense. Overall, I award this wonderful dram 85 out of 100. It certainly feels like more.

Nose: Sherry, vanilla, oak, caramel, dried fruit (raisins), dried orange peel Palate: Sweet. Sherry, caramel, dried fruit (oranges, dates, raisins). Faint wisps of peat. Finish: Medium length. Cinnamon, clove, black pepper, orange peel, vanilla. Hints of coffee and cocoa. Overall, this is a quite drinkable sherry-forward and spicy dram that evolves through its layers; sweet and sherried, then into caramel and chocolate, finishing with spice. A rather decent sipper.

The nose has notes of old apple, similar to pommeau. It's smooth and well-balanced, with a slight pepperiness at the end. I don't believe it's peated, despite what the style description says.

What is happening here? In the nose, some strange, smoky, incense-like, durian notes, lol. In the mouth, it's mineral, complex, general fruit, herbal, really nice

Initially sweet, then dry and spicy with some saltiness. It's a bit challenging to drink at first, but it improves on the second sip.

Aroma: hazelnuts, apples, oats Taste: sherry, fruits, apples, bananas Finish: oak, wood, biscuits, fruit.
