Jura 10yo (1980s bottle)

Completing my series of reviews of past whiskies, here are my thoughts on Jura 10 Year Old from 1980, a delightful whisky that is far superior to the 10 Year Old available today. Jura in the 1980s was struggling financially, but Whyte & Mackay fought to make this distillery highly recognizable, and they have certainly achieved that goal in this era. Bottled at 40% ABV, with a vintage label depicting the island's map. On the nose, it's quite intriguing. Chocolate, hay, dry earth, orange caramel, very perfumed. After the initial sip, the aroma becomes sweeter, with honey, vanilla, white chocolate, and sawdust. On the palate, it's a bit straightforward and feels like a simple transition to the aftertaste. Peppery, earthy peat, fresh orange, and honey. After a few sips, you'll also detect bitter tobacco. A little subdued. Aftertaste is very good. Smoky, woody, peppery, and salty. A faint cigarette and tobacco note. Overall, this whisky is very light, which is characteristic of Jura. I believe this one surpasses the "Origin" expression, which is also a 10 Year Old. It's a light, easily enjoyable spirit that I imagine was quite interesting back in the 1980s. My rating for it is a solid 90 out of 100.
