Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 28

The nose is full of bright fruits like apples and pears, with a touch of nuttiness and vanilla cream. As it breathes, citrus notes mingle with oak. It seems quite young but is respectable. On the palate, I get candy, water, and fruit. Where is the oak? In conclusion, it's "smooth" because it lacks substance. For me, the proof is far too low. It has no finish and the mouthfeel is non-existent. This would serve well as an introduction to whisky, but it's significantly overpriced. It had a lot of promise based on the aroma. Honestly, it drinks like a $40 bottle. There are far too many excellent bottles at its current price point to ever justify buying this one again. Keep your money.

Glass: Glencairn, rested for 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Smell: Caramel, vanilla, some dark fruit. Taste: Medium mouthfeel, some clove and baking spice. Finish: Medium length, medium heat. Added splash: Some oak appears that I previously missed. Overall: 7/10 - This is an above-average pour, but the high price (around $85) can't be justified. Many better options exist for under $50. This was a gift.

I picked this bourbon as my first "splurge" purchase out of curiosity and because it was on sale, and it ended up becoming one of my favorites. A friend and I debated if this was superior to regular Jefferson's. To me, there's no comparison. I can almost detect a salty sea air flavor, though that's likely my imagination. I ended up getting a second bottle when it was discounted again. It's delicious.

The finish is very smooth with minimal burn. The sweetness reappears here, and the first hint of sea salt can be detected. A very good bourbon overall!
