Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 8

I admit I was skeptical about this bourbon's premise, but I gave it a fair shot. The idea is this whiskey is aged for about six years, then loaded onto ships that travel globally, with the belief that the varied atmosphere and ship's movement impart unique qualities. However, it's actually quite underwhelming. The aroma is delicate, starting with notable ethanol before shifting to notes of fruit, sweetness, and flowers, along with some oak. The taste is diluted, weak, and puckering, carrying a soapy character that masks what appears to be a very sweet, simple syrup profile. The finish abruptly introduces a touch of rye spice and botanicals, possibly the most rye-forward finish I've encountered in a bourbon. Ultimately, this spirit seems a bit underdeveloped, and for the price of $80, it doesn't represent a sound purchase.

I'm a big fan of Jefferson's, and this marks my initial experience with any of their voyages. Regrettably, it's quite unpleasant. The saltiness dominates intensely, to a degree that I believe it should be reserved solely for mixing drinks. However, the cost makes that impractical. In summary, I would refrain from purchasing this in the future.

I can't identify what stands out on the nose. I suspect brine and perhaps some apple, vanilla, and oak but not excessively. Medium finish. Not too harsh. Good stuff. Good enough to be proud to share with anyone but not so great I would reserve it only for fellow enthusiasts.

This one doesn't wow me. It's not as sweet as the bourbons I typically enjoy. The alcohol is noticeable. Disappointing, especially since it was the most expensive bottle I purchased.

Among my favorites - I prefer this over any of the Jefferson line I've tried. It might be the smoothest bourbon I've had. This one is light, floral, and best enjoyed straight.

Abundant caramel and oak at first, slight spice, light fruits and vanilla, then a bit of sea air in the finish. Very smooth. Overall, a very pleasing bourbon.
