About this bottle

This is the seventh release, or voyage, in the Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea collection and the first to be offered at cask strength, an impressive 56% ABV. For this series, bourbon barrels aged for approximately 6 to 8 years are loaded onto a ship for several months of sea travel. This well-traveled bourbon has circled the equator four times, visited 30 ports across 5 continents, and was bottled after its journey.

This little treasure I discovered was unexpectedly superb. On the nose, there weren't many distinct notes beyond saltiness. However, the taste was packed with salt, various fruits, and the cask strength truly unified everything. The cask strength didn't overpower the flavors at all; it enhanced them quite well.

I appreciate the narrative behind this spirit, but the flavor didn't wow me. Compared to standard Jefferson's, the Ocean aged version's taste reminded me of Woodford. It offers more vibrant, spicy notes rather than the flat, vanilla profile of Jefferson’s small batch. It's a decent drink, with a better story, and not a poor purchase.

Sweet aroma, very sweet on the palate and tongue. It's smooth, with pleasant barrel notes and no lingering aftertaste. It leaves a comforting warmth. I'll enjoy a fine cigar with it next time I open the bottle! Drank neat, as I always do and as it should be.

It's quite good but costly, making a bottle purchase difficult. Also, it's a small batch, not single barrel, so it's hard to justify. However, the few servings I've had were excellent.

Hattie Newton 3.8

I appreciated the sample I received; there's a distinct quality to this drink, possibly due to aging it at sea. I'll definitely buy a bottle when I have the chance.

The aroma consists of sherry, oak, and wood chips. It has a soft, light texture and a slightly buttery taste with more oak notes. The finish is brief and direct, featuring a very mild spice.
