Jefferson's Presidential Select 18 Year Old 1991 Release. A well-rounded Straight Bourbon Whiskey by Kentucky Artisan Distillery, distilled from wheat in the fall of 1991, aged in Stitzel-Weller Barrels for 18 years, and bottled in numbered batches. It begins delicately with notes of biscuit and fruit; a woody character adds hints of oak, wheat, and a touch of smoke; culminating in a swift, sweet finish with notes of rye, port, and honey. Uncertain about the bottling date, perhaps 2014 or earlier. The aroma sets high expectations, but it disappoints entirely on the palate and the finish. Some sweet oak is present but vanishes quickly, leaving behind water with a faint bourbon essence.
I had hoped to thoroughly enjoy this serving. It had no discernible flaws, but nothing particularly stood out in the aroma, taste, or finish. It's certainly a quality whiskey, good but not outstanding. I prefer the 16-year-old when comparing the two.
