Mason Akers 4.8

Our bourbon tasting journey begins with a whiskey from a specific producer. NAS, but likely at least ten years old. The producer is known for another brand and clearly has good connections, possibly to a large distillery. I've visited the distillery but didn't take a tour; it's quite small. Haven't tried the other brand. A specific mash bill. Dark amber in color with a viscous consistency. A powerful aroma leads with butterscotch, accompanied by candied green apple and a hint of nutmeg. Deeper in the glass, there's a note of pecan. This spirit has a high proof but drinks much lighter, offering abundant flavor, with Crème Brulee being prominent. The extended finish combines peppery cinnamon with caramel. I truly enjoy this one; it possesses an excellent aroma, wonderful flavor, and mouthfeel. It's reminiscent of another specific aged single barrel bourbon. It's pricey but worth it. The only drawback is that being the first up, it sets an extremely high standard.
