J. Henry & Sons 5 Year Bourbon Bellefontaine Reserve is named after Bellefontaine Farms in Basco, WI, acquired by the Henry family in the 1800s. This straight bourbon undergoes an 8-month finishing period in ex-Cognac French oak barrels, having been aged for a minimum of 5 years. It is proofed using "Petit Eau," water aged for at least 3 years in bourbon barrels. The proof varies across different batches.

Smell: Intense caramel and vanilla initially, followed by butterscotch and a hint of oaky butter. Taste: Very warm and peppery on the tongue, with additional caramel, dark berry, and black pepper notes. Rather fiery, with decent weight. A clear caramel aftertaste.
Batch VIII, bottle 1288. Aroma of vanilla, caramel, and a hint of cinnamon. The flavor had some higher alcohols, cinnamon, and clove, with a vanilla finish and a bit of burn.
The aromas are floral, with caramel, vanilla, and spice notes. The flavors mirror the nose and are nicely sweet. The strength is well-concealed. Very enjoyable.
Big maple and vanilla aroma. Cognac and "whiskey" flavor. Drops of water bring out molasses notes. Faint cinnamon note.
Fig and cherry on the nose. Subtle cognac notes. More cognac and sweet corn, hints of honey, peanut brittle, with a long finish.
