It's wonderful when someone I know shares news about finding a vintage bottle from their parents or grandparents, stored away for ages. That's how I had the opportunity to sample a visually appealing bottle of "Justerini & Brooks", indeed J&B. This particular bottling is named "Royal Ages" by Justerini & Brooks. It's a 43% ABV blended scotch whisky, appearing to be from the 1970s. The nose initially presents abundant grain whisky scents, followed by hints of old books, dampness, and sawdust. Later, fruitiness emerges with notes of gooseberries and aged green apples. Bread and yeast notes are present, which is quite pleasant. It also has a BBQ sauce aroma. The palate is very direct: honey, cider, and green apples. The finish offers a pleasant spiciness and a delightful honey mustard flavor, lasting a medium duration. Overall, tasting these bottles feels like stepping into a time machine made of whisky. I enjoy contemplating the world and events from the era when this was distilled and bottled. A great experience, an average drink, my rating is 80 out of 100.
