This was truly exceptional. It had a barrel designation of gld23006 at 128.2 proof. It appears to be available in Northern KY with 255 bottles on hand. The thickness and mouthfeel were incredibly pleasing. It's been a long time since a readily available bourbon at a $100 retail price point actually delivered value. This dram drinks like a limited edition. It surpasses the last five 4 roses small batch releases. I would liken it to a darker, richer, and tastier Russell's 13, or perhaps an older, more flavorful rendition of Michter's BS bourbon. I'm struggling to pinpoint an exact comparison; it's like a blend of Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, and Michter's. I enjoyed it so much that I drove from North Central Ohio back to Newport, KY, solely to acquire two more bottles. If you spot this, get it. If you don't absolutely love it, I'll gladly purchase your open bottle at full retail price. Absolutely no risk involved.

HIRSCH The Single Barrel Double Oak is a limited release of Kentucky straight bourbon. It undergoes a finishing period in used American oak after initial maturation in new American oak. This bottling will see only 30 barrels distributed. Notably, there are three distinct single barrel styles, each featuring a blend of two mash bill recipes in varying proportions. The mash bills are: one comprising 72% corn, 13% rye, and 15% malted barley aged for 8 years and 7 months; the other consisting of 74% corn, 18% rye, and 8% malted barley aged for 3 years and 7 months. Due to the nature of these single barrel releases, the flavor profile and ABV will differ by barrel. It began appearing nationwide at select retailers in May 2023. (SRP $99)

The nose is rich with deep oak and sweet corn, complemented by some peppery baking spices. Intriguingly, the palate is very flavorful upfront, with a sweet molasses character supporting more subtle notes of wood, corn, rye, and young tobacco. The finish is medium in length, with the brighter notes concluding at the back of the throat. A slight tannic bitterness remains on the tongue.
Pleasant on the palate, with a warm finish. A welcome discovery from a spontaneous purchase. I will repurchase.
