Highland Park, 14 years old, 2004, from Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice. At 59% abv, it's too strong for me. Even after diluting, I couldn't find the right balance with my small sample. The aroma is peaty, alcoholic, strong, with notes of bacon and cooked fruit. It seems the typical pleasant qualities of Highland Park are overshadowed by peat and high alcohol. The taste includes peat, bacon, cooked fruit, orange peel, anise, and a hint of grapefruit. The finish is medium-long, smoky, peaty, and fruity – a nice finish. Left in the glass, it develops a maple syrup note. Sampled.
